Article 2: The Lord Jesus Christ

View All Lessons

In the second Article of the Apostles’ Creed, we read, “and in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord.” Here the Christian confesses not only that Jesus is the Son of God but also that Jesus is his Lord.
In Matthew 22, we read of a group of Pharisees that approached Jesus with a question, saying, “Master, which is the great commandment in the law?” (v. 36). They wanted to know which of the Ten Commandments was most important. Since the Pharisees and scribes were preoccupied with such questions, they confronted Jesus and demanded that He would designate one of the Ten Commandments as being most important. Jesus’ response to their question was, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets” (Matt. 22:37-40).
