After Solomon died, all Israel came to Shechem to make Solomon’s son Rehoboam king. Jeroboam came with his men also, and said that if Rehoboam would treat the people kindly, they would not rebel. But Solomon followed the advice of his young counselors, and told them he would treat them even more harshly than his fa- ther.
