The Brazen Altar blocked the way to God—one cannot not approach God unless their sins are confessed and forgiven. Sin requires a blood sacrifice—“the wages of sin is death.” The final and perfect sacrifice was made by Jesus Christ on the cross. We must confess our sins and come to Christ by faith to be forgiven. Our sins are then imputed to Christ, and his righteousness is imputed to us.
